When I joined this corporate world in June'06 I was super excited. I was so self motivated that I did any and every work that came my way....and that too without any expectations!! People around me did took un-due advantage of this and gave me thr share of work as well..but I never realised....I mean I thot its my work and have to do it. My story is not unique, most freshers do come with this attitude.
But over years...why does it get washed away? Why does the enthusiasm ends? After few initial years we start getting into questions like - why do i work? what will I get? Why am I only asked everytime to do extra work?
Few probable reasons can be :
- The world is different from our imagination. We see all sorts of harsh corporate truths around - favor ism, biased bosses, no growth ( despite of hard work) , chamchas , etc. All these things kill the freshness/ motivation in an individual.
- Over the years people feel they are not getting right share of thr contribution- either in monetary terms or higher/better position/ opportunity
- People get content with whatever they have . The drive to achieve gets missing.
- People just want to project themselves as a " top Performer" initially to make a place for them , and once they get this they get to thr normal self.
I have thought of few things that can help in retaining the motivation :
- Always look at people lower than your level - ths is not a very good approach for Long Term growth . But by looking a your juniors you feel better in comparative sense
- Talk to people who like the role you are doing or who are interested in your area. This will make you feel good about your work
- For Females ( Wear new clothes to office - that in itself is a very big motivator to be in office )
That's all I can think of right now. Unfortunately for bosses and other corporate stuff i cudn't think of a solution.
Happy Working Friends- lets go on !!
Lets listen to the music life plays for us..every day...every moment...lets enjoi and cherish every sound of life...

Ahh- Corporate World
It was 18 months back I entered this mad house called the " Corporate World". All thru our MBA we were taught this is the ultimate life which gives you power, fame and lots of money.....
18 months down the line I find myself midst of everything but these three...
What u actually get in return is - donkey work, responsibility without authority, and company of people, who I personally call professional version of "lalita pawar's" and " shashi kala's". Why they have been given this name is because of their commendable act of making plans each moment of how to take the credit without doing any work. Given a Chance they would not even think twice before even back biting
My teachers in MBA used to shout " the corporate world is waiting for you, u are the future". For sure the corporate world was waiting for us- SLAVES we are!!
I wonder have I done MBA or Masters of Administration.
Its not actually cribbing what I am doing right now- it's more of amusement over the huge difference between reality and the perceived notion of the corporate world.
Well as every one says these are the learning years and to be successfull one has to grill himself, before he actually gets to the top. The learning part I dont mind as long as I dont learn being another Lalita Pawar and Shashi Kala :-)
